Eight youth and adults spent last week in North Charleston parterning with Aldersgate Global Methodist Church and Holy City Missions to serve the homeless and underpriveledged communities in the area. They helped prepare and pack meals for the soup kitchen and even scrubbed and cleaned floors. They also set up and staffed the food bank, clothes closet, harvested potatoes and ministered to the neighborhood during a cookout.
This hard working team slept in bunk beds in the church and bathed in a shower trailer.
They spent their evenings worshipping together so they would be prepared to serve.
They served alongside youth and adults from Lyman Methodist and Bethel Church of Andrews. Friday morning was free so our group went exploring in Charleston. They were given the opportunity to tour and hear testimony about Mother Emanuel AME Church and were allowed to pray at the altar. The whole week was a powerful spiritual experience.
Our team learned what it was like to put sweat equity into being the hands and feet of Jesus. Rather than dwell on the circumstances of how someone ends up in such great need, they learned to simply meet people where they are, to love them with with the Lord's love and to serve them to the best of their ability. I praise the Lord for this great week and for the impact it had on our team and will continue to have on our church. Catherine Johnson, one of our Youth Leaders shared, "Not all can give, not all can go, everyone can pray."
Will you join me in praying for Holy City Missions and Aldergate Global Methodist Church? Will you also join me in praying for how we might find ways to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community.
Blessings,
Pastor Kelly
